The Christmas Tag.

I haven’t written anything for so long! 38 weeks preggo running a pub full time with a crazy toddler doesn’t leave a lot of spare time for blogging.  Plus I seem to just offend everybody with my latest parenting opinions so it’s best if I keep quiet. However, I’ve seen a couple of my favourite bloggers write this post so I decided to copy so thanks to Run, Jump, Scrap and All The Beautiful Things for giving me something to write about which hopefully won’t get me in trouble!

It’s Christmas Eve so here are my festive answers…

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

Definitely The Snowman! Ok it’s only half an hour so is it technically a film? But it’s a wonderful story of Christmas, friendship and real life. I genuinely cry every time. Every year I think surely it won’t get me again but it does. Don’t even get me started on the Snowdog, that came out the year our lovely family dog Molly was really old and poorly.

I love him!
I love him!

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

Kind of! That year when we had snow the Saturday before Christmas and all the club managers were gutted we lost the sales but secretly happy to have a reason to close and play out! I think it was 2010 and then we had that really good snow January 2013! I love snow!

Where do you usually spend your holidays?

At my moms. I think men tend to be the ones to leave home! Dave is originally from Clacton but lived all over the place before settling with me and my brother in law is from Bristol but moved to be with my sister so it makes sense for us all to travel 5 minutes to my moms! We usually see Daves Mom and Dad around new year because that’s Daves birthday so it makes sense to see them then!

What is your favourite Christmas song?

Do They Know It’s Christmas. The original Band Aid. It’s actually my all time favourite song. All the 80s stars, all about Christmas! What’s not to love! And the live show where Queen stole the show… Awesome!

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

No it’s all about the day! You’ve gotta wait. Work presents are ok like secret santa and stuff but family is all for the day.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Dancer, Prancer, Cupid, Blitzen, Donner, Rudolf… 2 more… determined not to cheat here… Dasher?

Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

Other than going to my moms our only tradition is Christmas Eve dinner at home and then we make cocktails.  I’m working tonight and 38 weeks preggo so the cocktails will have to wait but we’ll still have our little dinner.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Ikea! Real ones are nice but part of the festive fun is going in the loft for the decorations and the loft smell on the tree!

What is your favourite holiday treat/sweet/food?

Stuffing! I love stuffing. Just my moms dinner in general. Baileys when I’m not pregnant and making creamy cocktails! I love all chocolate but that’s not limited to Christmas I don’t need a special day to overeat chocolate.

Be honest, do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

Honestly, giving! I’m a bit extravagant with presents but I really don’t want anything in return. I’m like my mom. She always liked splashing out for people but genuinely didn’t expect like for like! Some of my most extravagant gifts… a trip to Disneyland Paris for my nephews, iPad and iPod for nephews, Apple Watch for Dave, a trip to New York for my sisters (technically birthday but December birthday) I genuinely am happy to see their little faces. Some people think I’m shallow and materialistic but I don’t care. It’s all worth it!

So cute!
So cute!

What is the best Christmas present that you have ever received?

I’m going to say tickets to see Frankie Valli because that’s when Dave proposed! The present was tickets then 6 months later we went to the show and got engaged!

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I’d love to go somewhere really snowy! Somewhere in North America so I could feel like I’m in a Christmas movie.

Are you a pro wrapper or do you fail miserably?

Definitely a pro haha! I LOVE wrapping presents! I’m all about bows and ribbons. Ollie has just got paw patrol paper because I know he’ll prefer it but I love wrapping presents. I think I love it so much because I always used to help my mom wrap presents when I was a kid!

I've considered doing this as a part time job! Haha!

Most memorable Christmas moment?

There’s a few from my childhood when my mom and dad gave me floppy disks… but I didn’t have a computer… then my dad pushed a massive box in! Windows 95!
I wonder where I get the extravagant gift thing from?!

But actually the best has to be Ollie’s first Christmas when we spent Christmas in my dads shed. He turned it into a temporary log cabin! In the words of my nephews… it was sick! He handmade a table big enough for all of us and this sleigh…

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I don’t remember! I like to think of santa as a postman pat character, special delivery service. The elves on the shelves are like my Hermes couriers and they decide whether to deliver or leave the presents in a safe place! Santa is like the depot manager. I’m going to minimise the bullshit with Ollie and make it all quite logical.  I don’t like the idea of being watched either, it’s too religious for me.  I’ll buy him presents whether he’s good or bad because I love him and I want him to understand that presents are because you love someone and that person worked hard to pay for them not a reward from some old guy watching you all year (then in the next breath we tell kids not to talk to weird old men… that’s a discussion for another day!)

What makes the holidays special for you?

Gotta say it’s my mom! She just does everything. She gets really thoughtful presents and always does good food and makes it fun for everyone! Apart from that one year when she didn’t get new pyjamas for us…

Merry Christmas everybody!

I’m sure I’ll be writing lots more soon as Ted is due to meet us in 9 days and Boxing Day is my last shift before my tiny little maternity leave!
